BIO
In 2007 island6 Arts Center, under the artistic direction of Thomas Charveriat & Zane Mellupe, founded Liu Dao, a collective of six Chinese artists (Yang Longhai 杨龙海, Wu Yandan 吴艳丹, Wang Dongma 王东马, Zhang Deli 张德丽, Zou Susu 邹林峰, Rose Tang 罗丝唐).

Liu Dao is an electronic and interactive art group where artists and technologists actively engage with culture, addressing the issues and concerns of our time.

Liu Dao challenges convention, encourages collaboration and celebrates the hack. Liu Dao explores the cultural potential in the convergence of art, technology and science, and their discovery is applied toward the benefit of the artist community.
Interaction is generated in the environment but also within the art pieces. The use of technology such as sensors, motion-tracking devices, GPRS modem controlled videos, sonar rangefinders or "Arduino" microcontrollers are utilized to create interactive pieces that challenge current digital interfaces and interactivity solutions and develop new forms of expression through new media technologies. Liu Dao produces interactive installations, electronic art, performance and multimedia shows in Shanghai. The curatorial program reflects new cultural roles for visual and sound art, and the confluence of tradition and technology.

island6 Arts Center promotes artists by addressing the public, supporting digital research and experimentation, developing collaborative projects with partners and contacts worldwide, and maintaining informative websites on the history and current practice of electronic art in China.

"No Boat, No Brio" Exhibition Opening Night at island6 Marina

Dates:
Sat Jan 10, 2015 19:00 - Sat Jan 10, 2015

Location:
Kohkaew, Muang, Thailand

Like the sea, Liu Dao doesn’t know fatigue, and certainly has no mercy. That’s why we’ve barely given you a moment to rest between our heady exhibitions! We may curse like sailors, but we also dream like them. In a nod to island6 Marina's seaside perch and an ode to man's ceaseless quest to tame Poseidon's domain, Liu Dao presents "No Boat, No Brio." Washing in on an electrically high tide, this exhibition is a multimedia love letter to the sea and the depths it reveals within those that sail its waters.

The meditative “No Boat, No Brio” is a reminder to turn off the engines and dock in the port of bravado. Heed the sirens’ melodious call and uncork that good bottle of wine you’ve stowed away in the boat’s cellar for ages. Pull up that anchor and join us when the exhibition opens with a elegant party at island6 Marina on the evening of Saturday, January 10th from 7-10pm at our location in the Royal Phuket Marina. There’s no better way to start off the new year than with the Liu Dao crew!

"Blood-Money & Bitches" Exhibition Opening at island6 Marina

Dates:
Sat Dec 27, 2014 19:00 - Sat Dec 27, 2014

Location:
Kohkaew, Muang, Thailand

Crime doesn’t usually pay… at least not always in cash. The Liu Dao collective is rolling up their cuffs and doling out “Blood-Money & Bitches,” a hearty artistic cheers to the criminal that simmers below the surface in all men. Through their multimedia wizardry, the collective has set out to explore how our inner gangster and law-abiding citizen selves clash and come alive, especially after the sun sets.

Anticipate a gleefully fiendish array of the collective’s signature multimedia work on display in their glamorous marina-side locale. Provocative art and devilish intentions will mix in all the right ways at the exhibition’s vernissage on Saturday, December 27th. The worst thing you could do in this world might just be to commit a crime without any style, so come join us for a criminally good time. We swear we’ll give you a good alibi...

"Key to Ignition" Opening Night at island6 Hong Kong

Dates:
Thu Dec 11, 2014 19:00 - Thu Dec 11, 2014

Location:
Hong Kong, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China

The Liu Dao art collective simply can’t stop won’t stop producing titillating new artworks for you, and they’ve got a treat for all you residents of the Pearl of the Orient. This time we’ve channelled our highly conceptual artistic mind through a symbol of freedom, imagination, and dynamism – an elegant, gas guzzling horse that runs on a crazy futuristic race – the ubiquitous automobile. This much desired, gleaming metal object that pulses with its purrrr and visual entourage of thoughts, feelings, conversations, and decisions. The car, so essential to identity and movement, and also… so intriguing to use in the pursuit of finding new uncomfortable sex positions.

We are talking to you, you beautiful languorous creature, who continuously admires yourself in the rearview mirror, winking at your wife’s best friend as she perches just behind you. If reclining seats have no secrets anymore and gasoline isn’t the only thing that you often pump in your car… you definitely can’t miss our latest exhibition, “Key To Ignition,” debuting on the evening of Thursday, December 11th at island6 Hong Kong.
