Queen Street Studios Gallery is pleased to present 'falling somewhere in-between', an exhibition of new work by Lee Welch. Welch's installation balances elements of function and dysfunction, chaos and order, in an uncertain equilibrium. By exploring the slippage between one thing and another, Welch reveals that meaning is always elusive and impossible to harness. Welch relies on methods of fragmentation and isolation by using forgettable materials that he finds turning the commonplace and mundane into work that is rich with human emotion and fragile beauty.

By exploring the slippage between one thing and another, Welch reveals that meaning is always elusive and impossible to harness. Welch relies on methods of fragmentation and isolation by using forgettable materials that he finds turning the commonplace and mundane into work that is rich with human emotion and fragile beauty.

The plainspoken objects in Welch's installations are quietly alluring and often suggest a particular function or allude to potential meanings, yet remain evasive through their careful displacement. A sense of uncertainty develops as the viewer navigates the installation; multiple references unfold gradually over time ensuring that meaning is perpetually evolving and mutating. Welch uses this area of confusion to investigate the complex, shifting and often contradictory relationships between people and their environments and the links between nature, culture and the commodified world.

Lee Welch has exhibited widely and has had solo shows in America, Britain, and Ireland. Welch has exhibited his work in the LAAA/Gallery 825 in Los Angeles, the Lab Gallery in New York, the Electronic Language Festival in Brazil, and the Lugar Comum in Portugal. Recent exhibitions include the

27 July - 30 September 2006
Preview 27 July 6-8pm

Four is pleased to present Archipelago and Other Stories, an
exhibition of new work by Ciaran Walsh. Walsh's work plays with
imagined geographies and popular culture references to explore notions
of escapism, confinement and the sense that perfection is always
elsewhere.

The small scale representations of fictional places, architecture and
situations mediate between these imagined personal landscapes and
narratives, and a sensation of restraint experienced through the
physical and social facts of external reality. Through sculptural and
textual works that are often whimsical in tone, Walsh focuses on these
deviations from the navigation of daily life in a manner that is both
playful and despairing.

Graduating from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology
in 2003 and currently living and working in Dublin, Ciaran Walsh has
exhibited in 'Haunted' in the City Arts Centre, 'Elsewhere from Here'
in the Workroom, and 'Flagged' a part of the VISUALISE: Carlow public
art programme. He has most recently exhibited as part of 'Imagined -
Visions of Architecture' in The Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon in June of
this year and is presently working as curator for part of VISUALISE:
Carlow's 2006/2007 programme. This is his first solo show.
