DOM BARRA approached and started his practice in the field of visual art during his 7 years of life in England, Great Britain, also studying at the Leeds College of Art and Design. His creative production interested a wide use of techniques such as installation, digitally manipulated pictures, mixed media paintings with a choice of subjects spreading from works with sociopolitical concerns to works with a more introspective theme.

The perpetuating creative dialectic of D. Barra results in a constant research for innovative artistic results in matters of subjects and the ways that they can be depicted. Lately his main focus is glitch art and a strong dedication in studying/researching/experimenting with all sorts of pleaseing/disturbing noises.

Biutifool Beastard at RE/Mixed Media Festival 2012

Sat Nov 10, 2012 10:00 - Sat Nov 10, 2012

Brooklyn NY, New York
United States of America

I am happy to announce that the RE/Mixed Media Festival 2012 will be held this saturday at Brooklyn Lyceum, 227 4th Avenue, Brooklyn NY.

The RE/Mixed Media Festival is a celebration of collaborative art-making and creative appropriation. It’s the artists’ contribution to the ongoing conversation about remixing, mashups, copyright law, fair use, and the freedom of artists to access their culture in order to add to and build upon it.

Featuring: Performances, panel discussions, hip-hop, sampling, beat-box, film & video, fashion, food, DJs, technology, interactive installations, painting, sculpture, software, hacking, and much more!

One of my projects will be featured in this year show.

The project is entitled Biutifool Beastard and it is about remixing the works of the great master of history of art into a more contemporary style making them more intriguing even for the less cultured people and tickle their curiosity and get them more interested in approching high culture. The project is a honest and not pretentious attempt in spreading culture and knowledge there where academic an institutional efforts have failed.
The project is also a campaign in support of open culture and the creative commons licenses against the totalitarian copyright licence and laws.
