Lecturer in Art Studio Foundations: Digital Media

The School of Art and Visual Studies at the University of Kentucky invites
applicants for lecturers in Art Studio Foundations, Digital Media
specialists (non-tenure track, nine-month appointment) to begin fall 2012
academic year. Initial appointment entails a one-year contract with
possibility of renewal subject to budget approval.

Duties: A successful candidate will join a team of dedicated individuals
who develop and teach an introductory class in digital art and literacy,
consisting of both lecture and hands-on studio components. The course is
taught to both majors and non-majors and is a part of the Foundations year
curriculum and the University’s new General Education program. The primary
job duties of faculty in the Lecturer series are teaching (75% assignment,
the equivalent of 3 courses per semester) and service (25%) that benefits
the academic and professional life of theSchool of Art and Visual Studies
at the University of Kentucky. Service may include duties related to the
Foundations Program, advising, studio maintenance, organization of shows
and exhibits involving primarily undergraduates, assessment, and other
assignments determined by the Chair.

Qualifications: MFA or PhD in hand by the beginning of academic
appointment, two years of teaching experience highly desirable, advance
knowledge of 2D and video software packages, as well as understanding of
major trends in contemporary art is essential.

Call for work:

Mersive Technologies is building the highest resolution, seamless display ever seen by the public. The display is composed of 80 digital light projectors blended into a seamless image containing 60 million pixels. These pixels will be packed into a display that is 27 feet across and 15 feet tall. The resulting 160,000 lumens of brightness will be seen for many city blocks in the heart of downtown Louisville, Kentucky as part of the 4-day International Idea Festival (www.ideafestival.com).

The display will showcase media from artists and content creators across many domains including science, engineering, medicine, gaming, entertainment, and art. We are looking for media that can take advantage of this increased resolution as well as the public nature of the project. Works selected will reflect both technical and conceptual possibilities presented by the future of high-resolution displays.

Content will be edited into a continuous video loop that will display contributions throughout the 4-day event from 8am to 10pm. Accepted contributors will retain the copyright to their material and will receive acknowledgment on the display, on a printed schedule at the event, and at Mersive's website. All electronically contributed content will be deleted at the end of the event.
