Life as a Photographer: Beyond the Lens

Deadline:
Thu Mar 20, 2008 16:36

Location:
United States of America

Spend a week developing a portfolio of work that engages galleries, museums and the media. A key question that we will address is: What do you want to express and why? A portfolio is an ever-evolving story that illustrates one's life, strengths, interests and abilities. Through viewing and critiquing our portfolios in class, we will begin a dialogue about image-making and help students master their own vision and express that through their portfolio. Individual assignments will be given to help strengthen (and challenge) that vision.

Discussions about career issues, technical issues and topics generated by the class. Slide shows of other photographers' work will be included later in the week. We'll cover a variety of image-making issues, from the choice of subject matter to the various practical and technical options for presenting work. For ease of sharing work, main critiques will be of slides or digital capture. Students are also free to show prints made outside of class time. Slide film can be processed daily at a local lab at an additional cost.

This workshop is designed for artists with two to 10 years of experience. It is particularly useful for those who are already working on a specific project or with specific subject matter, but it is also for those seeking direction in their work.

The workshop runs June 16-20, 2008 at Anderson Ranch Arts Center near Aspen Colorado. Click the link above or call 970-923-3181 for more information.

Disrupting the Body

Dates:
Fri May 02, 2008 00:00 - Thu Mar 20, 2008

Location:
United States of America

The nude has been the most popular subject throughout the history of art. It has also been the most controversial. This one week workshop is about disrupting the body, the human form. We will begin by challenging our preconceptions of this classic subject by looking at historical concepts and uses of the body in art. We have so many ideas of what a nude is supposed to look like, that one of the most important and difficult challenges is putting those aside to see the form that is actually in front of us. Identifying our preconceptions of the body is the first step to seeing this magnificent and rich subject in new ways and with fresh eyes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Media & Techniques We will shoot with digital cameras. Assignments are designed to challenge the student to see the nude in different ways.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activities The mornings will be full of discussions and critiques. In the afternoon we will photograph models on location working on specific assignments.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This workshop runs June 2-6 and is taught by Connie Imboden. Click link above or call 970-923-3181 for full details.
