BIO
culturia is a goal oriented artist in residence program and is set as a long term research project on artistic process. We develop a non material collection archiving texts written by artists. The program is set to entice and stimulate the writing practice through workshops, presentations and filmed interviews with invited artists, curators and other art professionals. All the material will be saved to create a knowledge base for researchers and be a starting point for development of future projects like exhibitions, publications and presentations. The concept is to keep the “non-material” which exists during the pursuit of the artists to the final material artwork. Accomplishing this the content cease to exist. culturia definition of non materiality can be understood only in this opposition.

Deadline:

Location:
Berlin, Rhode Island
Germany

culturia is happy to announce a launch of an open call for the residnecy period between 5th November 2012 – 31st January 2013.

culturia is an artist in residence program based in Berlin committed to researching and documenting the artistic process.

culturia offers a unique residency for artists and researchers working in emergent contemporary art practices. culturia residents are mid career artists, PhD candidates, academics whose work investigates the artistic process.

culturia’s mentoring exchange program gives artists the opportunity to explore contemporary art theory and ideas of aesthetics with established artists and curators.

culturia curators conduct sensitive, inquisitive film interviews with artists focusing on the artistic process in all its facets. These interviews serve to preserve on record interesting and important aspects of the creative process which may not be apparent in the final art work, create a dialogue with artists about their practice and build a film archive which pushes this discourse forward in an academic capacity.

culturia non material collection preserve the material that usually does not fit within the object. The non material collection does not include artworks but is made by the artists reflection on art – (audio, text, video).
culturia offers for its fellows networking possibilities on local and international levels via dinners, guest visits, presentations.
