Who Knows What?

Who knows what ?

In a duo, everything is possible, from the reality to the imagination. We b=
egin for example, to investigate the bare reality of a place which can be i=
nside or outside, by dance and music we penetrate this real space which has=
its appropriate life, following the way it is built, lived, represented. W=
e can also play with furniture and objects of the place, fix them to-gether=
, transform them into sculpture, totem . Dancer and musician settle a rite =
which is the history of the place, but also a poetic change of situation.

By playing, they lay themselves emotionally bare, connected to the mo-ment,=
the accidents, the breaks or aberrations of energy, emotion, the games wit=
h objects, materials, suits, make-up. The sweat of dancer and musician defo=
rms or models the scenic, musical, poetic subject. Natu-rally, there is som=
e humor in all this, because the body precisely has its limits. The risk, w=
hich we begin to play with, is internal, intuitive; it does not demonstrate=
itself, it is on the surface of skin, of soul; just a con-versation betwee=
n musical instruments (piano, clarinet, feedback, trum-pet, snare drum, har=
monica), voices and moving bodies.

Positively we are fond of adventurous chaos like improvisation. But J. Cage=
was the wisest man; for him, if we try to make the world better, we can wo=
rsen things. So if we worsen things by opting for disorder, may we become b=
etter ?

Parodi has a long, long list of projects he is or was involved in, with man=
y big names from the world of improvisation. But so far his releases is jus=
t a short list. This may change since he just started his own label, rabbia=
. The first release has a strange title "11'39"+5'00" '00" but the thin=
g lasts only ten minutes. Parodi uses feedback created and manipulated by a=
n old fashioned equalizer, using the various sliders to change the various =
frequencies. He plays this live, I think, in a rather improvised way. Quite=
noisy is the outcome, but it seems to lack head and tail or indeed any com=
positional structure. Rather, it is what it is: a guy switching knobs on an=
equalizer for ten minutes. Fine and good that people switch knobs for ten =
minutes, but why has the outcome be released then, I wonder. With such a na=

"Your second release 10'23" (11'39"+5'00" '00") is really interesting t=
oo (especially the second half!!!), but is more listened as a solo work. Bu=
t it's not a problem. It's just different." Olivier Brisson

"I admire very much the emotional tension that can stand very well througho=
ut all the piece. Particularly, the structure is very convincing, it can st=
and very well in its electrifying continuum... (it is never boring, nor rep=
eating itself, and this is a great goal in this so delicate genre). I find =
very convincing this piece too, mostly toward the end, though the coldness =
of the synthetic sounds of the sinus tones which I never liked and I find v=
ery not musical, synthetic indeed. Here too, my congratulations!" John Palm=

"I'm a great fan of your 10'19" release (Loneliness): real tension and lots=
of thin movements. It's a very good recording, it doesn't take the impress=
ion of a solo work, and the source isn't really identifiable. Very interest=
ing." Olivier Brisson

"I must take off my hat in sign of respect toward this piece. I think you g=
ot very well to create a sonic landscape that stays always fresh and intere=
sting. This is exactly the most difficult thing to get in free-improvisatio=
n. The gestures and their articulations stay fresh and imaginative througho=
ut all the piece. Compliments!" John Palmer
