ZOOart Festival opening July 4th.

Dates:
Thu Jul 04, 2013 17:15 - Sat Aug 31, 2013

Location:
Cuneo, Italy

Press release : ZOOart, Local art, ZOOincittà, ZOOlive!

ZOOart inaugurates its twelfth edition with a smorgasbord of activities and events dedicated to the transmission of contemporary art in public spaces, 4 July at 9.30pm at the Fresia Gardens in Cuneo.

The exhibition will again take place over many weeks, bringing life to the historical centre of Cuneo with its formula of outdoor evening events as has been proposed since 2002. The Fresia Garden, the old public zoo transformed into a recreational zone years ago, is the historical location for the event. It will be the background for installations produced or adapted for the occasion in a variety of artistic styles.

More than thirty artists from Thursday until Sunday over the first three weeks of July will present their own artworks, on the theme of the multiplicity of relations between humans and their natural and cultural habitat. Performance art featured will involve the direct participation of visitors, and as the artistic journey develops, collective experimentation will take place in the streets of the city.

Like each year, the ZOOart program will place an emphasis on the local artistic context, with the second edition of the project Local art, as well as attracting an array of international artists.

Local art is a project of the CRC Foundation in collaboration with Art.ur to support artists from the Province of Cuneo, and will be a key aspect of ZOOart. Eight young artists selected by a committee made up of Claudio Cravero, curator of the P.A.V of Turin, representatives of Art.ur and the CRC foundation will have their artworks displayed during the three weeks of the exhibition: Paolo Ansaldi, Sara Becchio and Paolo Borghino (StudioErrante Architecture) con Miriam Fabris e Emanuele Greco, Michela Depetris, Roberto Fassone, Simone Longo, Vittorio Mortarotti, Alessandro Quaranta and Enrico Tealdi. The foundation will support the three winners by purchasing their artworks and promoting their visibility through the participation in national and international exhibitions.

At the same time, the historical centre of Cuneo will be livened by the 2013 edition of the project ZOOincittà, consolidated by months of work undertaken by a specifically created workshop which was created in collaboration with the Order of Architects, the students who participated in the workshop of Professor Daniele Regis in the Department of Architecture and Design of the Polytechnic Institution of Turin and the Association Best Torino. The site specific installations of the theme “Community” will be located in Via Roma, Via Mondovì, Via Caraglio, Via Dronero, Via F. Cavallotti, Piazza Audifreddi in Cuneo. They were produced over the last few months through the ZOOincittà workshops and selected from hundreds of propositions of young architects, designers and students within the Cuneo area and will be visible from 4 July to the 31 August. ZOOincittà has a vast number of participants and was created in partnership between the Association of Retailers including numerous businesses from the Piedmont territory and is supported by the Company San Paolo.

During Thursday and Saturday evenings, in the three weeks of ZOOart from the 4 – 21 July in the Fresia gardens, the performances and live sets selected by Art.ur and the independent label Betulla Records will take place as part of the ZOOlive performances. 6 international performers will present their works at the ex-zoo or will involve visitors to the garden in stimulating and poetic collective events.

Finally, the workshop “DlinDlinZumZumPeppé”, part of the ZOObimbi project will allow children to play with their imagination through the creative reuse of recycled materials by transforming them into musical instruments. The workshop ZOObimbi will also include the group theatre-fanfare coordinated by the French artist Béatrice Bailet, which is inspired by the fantastical journey in train from Cuneo to Nice, a train line which winds through the landscapes of the Alps and is currently in risk of being closed.

The workshop will take place in the Fresia Gardens on Thursday and Friday during ZOOart.

The presentation of ZOOart and the works selected for the exhibition in public spaces ZOOincittà will take place in the form of a press conference, Friday 28 June at 5.30pm at the Salone d’Onore (reception hall) of Cuneo City.

The artists and performers selected for ZOOart 2013 are:

Every month, directly on your mobile, The “WAG” hosts a solo digital art exhibition related to the dynamic site-specific contest. So, the Widget Art Gallery works both as a sort of kunsthall showing temporary exhibitions and as a permanent collections museum because conserves all the past exhibitions inside an online archive. For IPhone and IPod touch, just copy this url http://www.chiarapassa.it/wag/mobile/ in Safari and choose: “add to home” and the WAG's icon will be saved on your IPhone. GLITCH was founded in 2011 and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

About the exhibition:

The Room within a View by Budhaditya Chattopadhyay

‘The Room within a View’ (2013) stems out of on-going project ‘Doors of Nothingness’ (2012-) as a virtual prototype for a series of sited installations. The project frames and (con)textualizes myriad of thoughts within the mindfulness of a nomadic listener, triggered by pervasive interaction with various immersive but evanescent auditory situations. Essentially experiential, subject-oriented and contemplative in its development, the project explores the itinerant sonic interactions occurring between the listener and constantly emerging environments as cognitive processes of hyper-listening and thinking, which arguably transcend the epistemological constrains of sound. http://budhaditya.org/

Enjoy the show!

Very best, Chiara.

About the exhibition:

How to practice a show show of an un done show via de-of-ing of a show through NonElegancing code show? - is a complex sounding short description of a possibly simpler kind of practice.

The practice questions how elements such as art exhibition/show contexts, material sensitivity, codes and algorithms, can be a way/technology for shared cultural imagining. In my version, the shared cultural element is done through negotiative processes that, in themselves, attempt to:
* offer a critique of the questions.
* allow the doing activities as positives, of various negative elements (the Non, the De, and the Un), hence having to negotiate its way.
* allow the possibility of self critique for the process.
* be the directional material for the practice. (i.e. to provide various "directions of negotiations": e.g. a person to person and an organisation; a person Through a person to a machine to an organisation, a person through code to many, a person to person to many and the many to just one of these, and so on..)

To do the practice, at least in this 1st attempt, the process has already began through negotiations between Chiara Passa - the WAG curator - and me. (aharon) The negotiations were to do with the general look, feel and activities in WAG, during the month of practising at the gallery. Here are the .coded^^ files.

The gallery will contain:
* information of how to negotiate uploading of .coded artworld^ websites
* how to negotiate contacting relevant people & organisations to tell them their material has been .coded
* documentation - if any - of negotiations regarding the .coding of artworld sites.
* compressed files of .coded sites to download.
* the look, and reflections on it, of the WAG.

^
There are a fair few "artworlds" - e.g. http://plausibleartworlds.org/ to begin with.
In this instance, the practice is negotiating with the art environment that is geared towards sustaining cultural activities - at times critical as well - through numerical & power motivated investments & gains. (ie an art environment that is mainly interested in the transcendence of cultural elements into various forms of power, rather than an interest in, for example, forms of art..)

^^
.coded (DotCoded) files are documents that their extensions was changed to .code. This is done to indicate that people can open these files as the binary or text code they are stored with. The intention is to view the code rather than the image/s or read the text, etc..
