BIO
Volume is an independent collective of curators and artists. The new project space is based in New Cross, South East London (housed within The Old Police Station). Volume provides opportunities for artists, designers, musicians and writers to research and develop their practice in the capital. We support both emerging and established practitioners, working across art forms and sectors. Volume prioritises the working process, dialogue and critical debate as an ongoing cycle. Through the residency programme, Volume provides access directly to the practitioner in the studio, facilitating engagement with their peers and the public. The events programme brings people together to meet, socialise and experience contemporary art and culture in an informal setting

Volume is Patricia Fleming, Simon Mitchell, Claire Shallcross and Caroline Stevenson

The End of Something.. A collection of reflections on the Global Crisis

* If the World came to an end how would you imagine picking up the pieces and starting over?
* What is the best thing about having less work, less money and more time? How would you best spend your (Free) time?

The End of Something is a critical archival project that aims to create a platform for participation to engage a local and International community to respond to recent shifts in the economy and the World. During Summer 2009, LOUDSPKR in collaboration with Volume will embark on a process of accumulation to collect personal and creative reflections, stories and experiences on the global crisis. Located in the former ‘archive room’ of a police station, Volume will become once again a bureau and repository for information. Materials will be displayed within the space, as well as online in a digital archive. Through a series of talks and events, the contents of the archive will be excavated, analyzed and interpreted. The End of Something aims to bring together a multitude of ideas, to approach a collective understanding of the present and to configure new possibilities for the future.

We are open for contribution for:
1. Personal reflections/stories (or responses to the above questions)
2. Web links to articles/texts, documents/publications/press releases/statements for film/artworks or events/exhibitions/conferences on the global crisis

All submissions will be uploaded to online and exhibited at Volume during August 2009. The End of Something is a non-profit independent initiative. If you are submitting any personal creative content, please specify if you have any terms of usage or creative license you would like to apply. i.e. Creative Commons

Send submissions to: teos.project@gmail.com (Please include your name, location and details of submission) Or post them to: Volume - 114-116 Amersham Vale, Deptford Police Station, New Cross, London SE14 6LG
