Emerging artists of all disciplines and from all over the world live and work in a historic Neo-Gothic chapel, featuring 20-ft. high ceilings, adaptable 24-hour studios, lofted bedrooms, kitchen facility and a growing body of specialized tools. Situated just 2.5 hours north of NYC, CAC is conveniently accessible by car or public transportation. We encourage creativity, dialogue, experimentation, and a diversity of styles, concepts, and practices (2D, 3D, 4D). All artists receive some form of financial assistance. The Contemporary Artists Center has recently opened its newest residency program on the campus of the Woodside National Historic Register Site in Troy, NY. Two neo-gothic stone church buildings now house our artist program and welcome artists from all over the U.S. and abroad.
The CAC is located 2.5 hours north of NYC, and is currently accepting applications for the Fall 2013 season.

The CAC focuses on emerging and early career artists and accepts applicants who offer quality in their art and encourages diversity of style, medium (2-D, 3-D, 4-D) and concepts.

Our facility features high-ceiling, adaptable studio space open 24 hours a day with some specialized studio facilities, possible exhibition opportunities, weekly critiques, and weekly outings. The living area includes lofted bedrooms, living room / library, dining room, kitchen & bath.

The residency program offers artists the time and support to create new work and fosters an environment that encourages creativity, dialog, and experimentation.

Fellowships available. All residency artists receive some level of financial assistance.

Artist Residency Manager Position Available

The Contemporary Artists Center at Woodside in Troy, NY is looking for a dynamic individual to manage our national and international artist residency program and attend to the needs of the artists in residence.

This is a live-in position. Start date is in mid-March, but this is somewhat flexible.

The mission of the CAC is to present and procure artists who want to produce, explore, test new concepts, and expand the current debates and ideas in today’s art and culture. Through artists’ residencies, art studios, exhibitions, and performances, the CAC seeks to promote the creation and appreciation of contemporary art. The CAC is committed to creative dialogue and community engagement while encouraging sustainable practices.

The Residency Manager position assists residency artists in both their studio and non-studio needs to create and maintain a professional atmosphere conducive to productivity and creativity within the residential community.

Duties include:

*coordinating artist arrival and residency stay
*orienting artists to Woodside
*assisting with tools, materials & scheduling critiques
*providing day-to-day attention to artists during their residency
*keeping facility maintained and in order
*providing general hospitality services as needed
*documenting artists while in residence

Requirements: Position requires excellent communication skills, superior interpersonal and organizational skills, and a deep commitment to contemporary art, and the value of the creative process.

We have a small office where we all pitch in. Like everyone else, the Residency Manager will perform a variety of functions as needed. General knowledge of multiple art mediums, methods and tools required. New media a plus. Car is essential. Must be patient and attentive.

Position is part-time 20-25 hours per week and includes housing and a $100/week stipend.

CAC focuses on emerging artists who want to expand the current debates and ideas in contemporary art practices. We encourage creativity, dialogue, experimentation, and a diversity of styles and practices (2D, 3D, 4D). Programming includes weekly critiques and outings, lectures, and possible exhibition opportunities. In late 2013, we will be launching the grand opening of our contemporary exhibition space in the adjacent Neo-Gothic church. All artists receive some level of financial assistance and may also be eligible for work exchange. Submissions may be sent via email or regular mail and require a $15 application fee. DEADLINE: Feb 15 for upcoming 2013 spring residencies.
