Artists Bruno Martelli & Ruth Gibson see their practice as an ongoing investigation into simulacra and the sublime underpinned by the tradition of figure and landscape. They make environments and performances using print, video and computer games. Known as igloo from 1995 - 2010, their first work together won them a BAFTA nomination.

They exhibit in galleries, theatres and festivals around the world including The Detroit Institute for Art, the Barbican, SIGGRAPH, ISEA, The Royal Opera House, Royal Festival Hall & 52nd Venice Biennale. Bruno lectures at AA School of Architecture, Slade & Goldsmiths College while Ruth is Creative Fellow at the Centre for Dance Research at Coventry University's School of Art & Design.

Their work can be found in private and public collections including Sarah Meltzer Gallery, Rose Goldsen Archive of New Media Art & the British Film Institute.

IGLOO: Warstars - Lighthouse Centre For the Arts

The Warstars Installation will be at the Lighthouse Centre For the Arts Poole. December 18th 2004 - Jan 15th 2005 10am -8pm

Warstars is a series of interrelated films concerned with the relationship between figure and landscape. The installation exposes the rhythms of nature which lends a mythic quality to the progression through lava, water, sulphur, rock and ice. Shot entirely on location in Iceland, Warstars features a double stereo score by one of Icelands leading electronic muscians, Bjossi Thorgrimsson aka Biogen.

Warstars will be touring the UK as part of the Capture Installations Tour 04/05.

I was gonna say that they (RR) are going to do dodgy stuff even if thay are boycotted by a few artists. As to the association with Tate and the whole PR thing - think about the last great show you went to - can you remember the sponsors? did you buy their product?. Evil corporates are always going to need to give cash away for tax reasons - why shouldn't artists benefit from this even tho' the cash is dirty? Who knows - if the show does really well then RR might decide to spend a bit more money on art and a bit less on evil engines if this keeps happening maybe they will give up on the engines altogether.....

A snowy installation during the day gives way to a star spangled performance during the evening. Heavenly effects subtly transform the venue to create an interstellar frozen wonderland every night, using sonic art, stunning visuals, dance and interactive technology.

The Winter1Space2 installation is a large scale audio-visual environment - you can enter at any point and stay as long as you like. The installation is a beautiful 3-dimensional snowscape that subtly responds to your presence. The performance blends projected images to create the illusion of live dancers made of stars. Contemplative and magical these events promise to be enchanting experiences. Internationally renowned and BAFTA nominated arts group Igloo are informed by contemporary dance and computer science.
