MetaConstruct Manifesto:

annihilation poetics and amagideon art in an authoritarian
and antagonistic age


Contemporary "Artworld artists" on the self-aggrandizing
circuit, are invariably reduced to illustrating and
trivializing popular political opinions under the deceitful
guise of creating clever cultural currency and cloying
"relevancy." Are you just as amazed to learn that apparently
most of these (disingenuous) "artists" today have regular
commercial gallery exhibits, international representation,
government funding, cushy teaching jobs, critical support,
duplicitous colleagues, fancy homes and professional
studios/supplies?... (While basic necessities are routinely
denied to many of us our entire working-lives by creepy,
arrogant Artworld and Corporate despots...) Accordingly, my
MetaConstruct installations can now only occur in the
aftermath of significant cultural devastation -- gutted,
globalized galleries, crucified curators, fraudulent
Arts-funding and the hoax of institutional Art-history...

In the 20+ years since my last public installation, these
various, modest components have continued to be developed
beyond their depicted states here/online. Obviously,
increasingly corrupt and incestuous Art Institutions cannot
be trusted to exhibit and support, fine integral work that
enables idioms rather than regurgitated
stylistic/ideological constraints and apologetics...

Any (improbable) hypocritical, retro-validation-offer would
be incapable of fully compensating (monetarily and
critically) for decades of exclusion and unwarranted
obscurity. Perhaps, at-heart, this work was always an
independent aspiration seeking intimate constellar
conditions for its long-regarded re-entry into a respectable
realm -- poised as it was, on the perpetually charred
cultural rubble of the present -- but we still yearn for
righteous revenge, equitable access to resources, and an end
to irresponsible, supercilious, cabalistic, cultural

And yes, I'm actually very disappointed that you
Artworld-bastards have chosen to exclude my poetic work from
any consideration but I also understand how threatened you
official prissies must be from any real developing
alternatives to your pathetic pseudo political charades. To
hell with your petty Artworld!

Upon my demise, assuming that there are no immediate heirs,
all components must be destroyed along with any encompassing
structures and/or claims of ownership and reproduction.

Many headed monsters -- unless, of course, there's no such thing as
chance, in which case Brad - for all his age and sensitivity - was nothing
less than a time-bomb, ticking softly away until his appointed time; in
which case, we should either - optimistically - get up and cheer, because
if everything is planned in advance, then we all have a meaning, and are
spared the terror of knowing ourselves to be random, without a _why, or
else, of course, we might - as pessimists - give up right here and now,
understanding the futility of thought, decisions, action, since nothing we
think makes any difference anyway; things will be as they will. Where,
then, is optimism? In fate or in chaos? It was only a matter of time...

Imagine the problem is not physical. Imagine the problem has never been physical, that
it is not biodiversity, it is not the ozone layer, it is not the greenhouse effect, the
whales, the old-growth forest, the loss of jobs, the crack in the ghetto, the
abortions, the stultified institutions, the tongue in the mouth, the diseases stalking
everywhere as love goes on unconcerned. Imagine the problem is not some syndrome of our
society that can be solved by commissions or laws or a redistribution of what we call
wealth. Imagine that it goes deeper, right to the core of what we call our civilization
and that no one outside of ourselves can effect real change, that our civilization, our
governments are sick and that we are mentally ill and spiritually dead and that all our
issues and crises are symptoms of this deeper sickness. Imagine the problem is not
physical and no amount of relocation, no amount of rehabilitation will deal with the
problem. Imagine that the problem is not that we are powerless or that we are victims
but that we have lost the fire and belief and courage to act. We hear whispers of the
future but we slap our hands against our ears, we catch glimpses but turn our faces
swiftly aside.

Millennium project: red drawings: 1981-2007

All the "red drawings" are similar but different and slowly evolving. One free exchange
(shipping included) per year if desired.

Various red and colored ink washes, dyes, pigments; photo-polymer palimpsest,
photo-linocuts, engraved photo-linocuts (derived from even earlier drawings: collapsed,
hollowed-out graphic art narratives -- restrained figure re-drawings -- interlocking
parting wakes), multiple block-printed, water-based lino-inks/extenders, gauche,
acrylic, color pencil, stencils on individually inked/painted, collaged, (archival
bookbinding pastes), and mechanically compressed, thin, multi-layered, papers.

After 35 years, I knew damn-well that you creepy,
conspiring, incestuous, artworld-acolytes wouldn't fund my
media project (even in this time of urgent-need), but
returning my audiovisual support material with a snotty
letter stating that the application was incomplete due to
missing audiovisual support material--and so wouldn't even
be adjudicated, is a new low. Do you actually get paid (with
my tax-dollars) for this disservice?!

Your (Art)world is based on mutual relief at your common
corruption. Maybe some cultures are based on even worse. But
that wouldn't change the bad faith of it and as years go by,
you wake at night in terror of your whole life being an act
of bad faith, where everything is self-interest and nothing
more, where every human interaction is driven by a silent,
even subconscious calculation of some ulterior motive, to
the point that a sea of bad faith has taken over your whole
life, there's no small island left from which you can even
try to build a bridge of good faith, because even that
effort becomes suspect, even good faith is nothing but
self-interested, even altruism is nothing but solipsistic,
even your professed agonizing right here right now is
nothing but a gesture, made to the conscience in order to
assure it that it exists.
