What’s New + What’s Next in Contemporary Art + Design

**Limited amount of submissions accepted - ‘Pay What You Can’ submission fee - receive deadline is 8pm, MST on January 23, 2011 or until full, whichever comes first**

International Call to Artists, Architects + Designers from all countries. We’re seeking what’s new + what’s next in the following categories:

1. Film/Video/Sound/3D Animation

2. Design (graphic design, interactive design, furniture + related accessories, lighting, haute couture, body adornments, architecture, etc.)

3. Two Dimensional Works (drawings, paintings, prints, photography, illustration, digital art)

4. Three Dimensional Works (installation, sculpture, textiles or any combination of these or the above)

Think new ideas + applications, cutting-edge materials/processes, unconventional use of traditional materials/processes, etc.

The purpose of ‘NEXT’ is to discover and highlight the best in the next wave of contemporary art + design. For this exhibition, The BECA Foundation will be enlisting the input of art + design enthusiasts from around the world. Two artists or designers from each of the four categories listed above will be selected by international public vote resulting in a total of 8 artists and/or designers being featured in the physical group exhibition, ‘NEXT’ presented by BECA: Bridge for Emerging Contemporary Art in Albuquerque, NM. The BECA public vote process is unique in that while someone may vote for their friend, each voter is also required to vote for 5 other artists/designers at the same time (their Top 6), thereby eliminating the personal popularity contest that has become so prevalent in online voting. Submission deadline is January 23, 2011 or until submission acceptance is full, whichever comes first. This exhibition will open March 4, 2011 and run through March 19, 2011. This group exhibition opportunity is open to submissions from all creative producers from any country who are at least 18 years of age. International Call to Artists, Architects + Designers - Lab A.D.

The 2nd annual BECA Foundation un-juried, open-registration, international exhibition of art + design - registration is open until allocated spaces are full or January 9, 2011, whichever comes first.

The purpose of this non-juried experimental, group exhibition is to further broaden exhibition opportunities and to discover and highlight new approaches by emerging contemporary artists, architects + designers as well as those who are more established but are stretching their work into unfamiliar territory. This exhibition provides an open opportunity in which to experiment freely. Registration is limited but guarantees exhibition. Works will be displayed salon style in a mosaic grid covering the interior of the exhibition space.

Modeled after The BECA Foundation’s first un-juried, experimental open exhibition, held in June 2009, titled ‘12x12x122’, this Lab AD call to artists, architects + designers guarantees exhibition of their work to all those who are registered. The Call will remain open until allocated spaces are full or until January 9, 2011, whichever comes first. For Lab AD, we have made an effort to broaden the variety of acceptable works (including 2-D, 3-D and video) but with limited space we are only able to allocate a limited amount of size categories and like ‘12x12x122’, all will be registered on a first come, first served basis.

All registered artists, architects + designers will have their works exhibited from February 4 - 18, 2011 at New Studio A.D. located at 312 Rosemont Ave NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico. There will be both an opening reception held on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 5 - 8pm during Albuquerque’s First Friday ArtsCrawl and also a closing reception held on Friday, February 18, 2011 from 5 - 8pm during Albuquerque’s Third Friday Downtown ArtsCrawl. There will be 20 artists, architects and/or designers selected from those exhibiting to have their works featured online at www.BECAICAD.org. Works are not required to conform to any particular medium, style, theme or concept. You may view complete submission info. posted at: http://www.becaicad.org/artist-designer-submissions.php

BECA: Bridge for Emerging Contemporary Art, the global artist and designer run non-profit project founded in January 2008, presents 'ARTICLE 19'. Drawing inspiration from both the preamble and Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, artists, architects + designers from around the world are challenged to Explore, Discover and Act through Art + Design. The result will be an international group exhibition which embodies not only the spirit of Article 19 of the UDHR but also explores today’s ever-growing challenges faced by contemporary society from all corners of the globe when attempts are made to realize our human right to freedom of expression. The ARTICLE 19 exhibition is being held in partnership with, 'STREET ARTS: A Celebration of Hip Hop Culture & Free Expression', a two month, city-wide event in Albuquerque, NM.
