where is The Thing? where is Nettime?

Hi.

Has anyone heard about any problems with The Thing? I have tried to access
the website for several days with no luck.

Also, I have not gotten any postings from either Nettime or Spectre mailing
lists also for as many days.

Does anyone know about this?

EG SERENE is freely available software by Barbara Lattanzi. It is based on
the 1970 film, "Serene Velocity", by the artist Ernie Gehr.

EG SERENE is available for the improvising of digital video in real-time.
The software adopts and "open sources" the structure of the 1970 film as
the basis for temporal reconstruction of your own selected digital videos
in quicktime movie format.

Visit the wildernesspuppets.net website to download PC and Mac versions
of "EG SERENE" software:

http://www.wildernesspuppets.net/serene/

EG SERENE derives from the 1970 film "Serene Velocity" its over-arching
time structure in which perceptual events emerge out of the incremental
alternation of the two halves of a bisected passage of film. With the
software interface, you are able to continuously vary selected time aspects.

How does this software relate to the work of Ernie Gehr?

In Gehr's "Serene Velocity" the filmic image is made to resonate in
sympathetic vibration with the perceptual engagement of the viewer. And
this becomes the basis for the EG SERENE software: to explore video
playback for resonant frequencies by means of the temporal-reshuffling
algorithm.

version 1.0 SOFTWARE

A M G S T R A I N is freely available, copyleft software written by
Barbara Lattanzi. The software is based on the structural algorithm,
conceived by Anne McGuire for her deconstructive videotape, "Strain
Andromeda, The" (1992).

Visit the wildernesspuppets.net website to download PC and Mac versions
of "AMG STRAIN" software:

http://www.wildernesspuppets.net/strain/

A M G S T R A I N is based on Anne McGuire's video detournement of the
Hollywood feature film, "The Andromeda Strain" (directed by Robert Wise,
1972, based on the 1968 Michael Crichton novel). The software translates
McGuire's structural algorithm by dividing the viewer-selected Quicktime
video into dynamically-variable length segments and playing back the
segments in reverse order. The source code written for the core action of
"AMG STRAIN" software is also available at the website.

A M G S T R A I N Software, via "Strain Andromeda, The", pushes cinematic
representation out of its creaky containment by montage (even while
depending upon it). AMG STRAIN Software ventures into an area that "Strain
Andromeda, The" anticipates: a different temporal field of affective
projection and play.

v1.0 SOFTWARE

HF CRITICAL MASS is freely available software, which is based on a 1971
film by Hollis Frampton titled "Critical Mass".

HF CRITICAL MASS adopts the structure of the earlier film as an interface
for improvising playback of digital video (quicktime movies).

The films of the late Hollis Frampton spanned the late 1960s through the
early 1980s. His work, Critical Mass, is one of a series of films
collectively titled "Hapax Legomena" that investigate "the specific
conditions of cinematic representation and the limitations and paradoxes of
visual description and narrative." (description by Steve Polta - San
Francisco Cinemateque, 2002)
