Ami Muranetz
Since 2009
Works in Victoria Canada

Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Ami Muranetz has shown in solo and group shows across both locally and internationally. Her work is currently being exhibited in Washington at the Viking Union Gallery, and has an upcoming exhibit in New York at the Agora Gallery in October 2009.

Drawing parallels through architecture, photography, painting, ceramics and sculpture, my work addresses issues of social division, status, and sexual stereotypes through subtle integrations of cultural symbols. Expressed through a hybrid of materials such as plastics, plaster, wood, and glass, figurative forms are usually present; either disembodied or referenced metaphorically.

Encouraged by a generation of strong female artists such as Kiki Smith, Janine Antoni and SWOON, my current work reflects the cultural and political environments around me.
