PRESS RELEASE

Montreal, June2, 2006 -- Agence Topo is proud to
announce the release of POST-AUDIO_DVD project, a
2-DVDs compilation of audiovisual projects
created by Montreal-based artists and featuring
over 150 minutes of video. It is a testimony to a
bourgeoning practice that combines sound and
moving images, as well as a panorama by
presenting a variety of artistic approaches that
bear the singular stamp of their creators.

The DVD_01 consists of a selection of works by
Daniel Olson, Pascal Grandmaison and Herri Kopter
(Jerome Miniere), Gennaro De Pasquale and JSR;
artists from a variety of backgrounds whose
practices range from performance, video art,
photography, new media and sound creation.

The DVD_02 features 5mm, an audiovisual work by
Gabriel Coutu-Dumont and Marc Leclair.
Originally, Marc Leclair composed and released
his musical work titled musique pour 3 femmes
enceintes on the Mutek_Rec label. The meeting
with Gabriel Coutu-Dumont led to the development
of this project in a new form which brings live
video and sound performance together. 5mm, the
title of this collaborative project, is also the
size of an embryo when it begins to take on its
first recognizable human form.

The works featured on the DVDs and selected by
Gennaro De Pasquale are primarily the fruit of
collaborations between visual and/or media
artists and electronic musicians. This ensemble
also bears witness to the rich Montreal context
at the beginning of the 21st century. The
Post-Audio_DVD is an extension of the
installation Post-Audio Esthetic, presented at
Galerie Clark in Montreal (2000), as well as the
online project Post-Audio NetLab (2004), two
projects that focused on the mutating spaces of
the musical object and sound.

The DVD is now available through Agence Topo's
website and later in specialized music and art
stores.

The release of this DVD happens simultaneously
with the presentation of at the 2006 Mutek
Festival; an important exhibition of video
artists Pascal Grandmaison at Musee d'art
contemporain de Montreal, as well as an
exhibition by artist Daniel Olson at gallery
Optica (Montreal)

Agence TOPO is an artist-run center dedicated to
the production, dissemination and ditribution of
independant multimedia works.

ASTRES / STARS / GOLEUADAU
poetry, photography, multimedia
with artists Childe Roland (poetry, Wales)
and Susan Coolen (photography, Canada)
http://www.agencetopo.qc.ca/astres

Astres / Stars / Goleuadau
Agence TOPO's latest multimedia creation, an
e-poetry project, is based on a poetic body of
work of the Canadian-Welsh author Childe Roland
and the images of the Canadian photographer Susan
Coolen. Launched within the Festival Voix
d'Ameriques in Montreal, the Web site extends as
an installation at the gallery Espace (see web
site info pages).

Childe Roland's poetical body of work
Astres / Stars / Goleuadau stands as a
metaphorical representation of the black holes in
astronomy and the death of supernovas. The series
is composed of sound poems in which all verses
first syllables start as an aspirated syllable
which slowly dries up the throat. The spoken
words only stand when read loud, "like a string
of curses launched to pitiless stars" (Childe
Roland). Written in three languages, French,
English and Welsh, the texts are organized in
sets of themes and approach various contemporary
issues: environment, epidemics, computerization,
globalization, etc. This work follows an
exploratory process carried out for several years
by this Canadian artist established in North
Wales, which works in sound and concrete poetry
and deals with the physical characteristics of
the text through also artists' books and
sculptural objects. Childe Roland is the artist's
name of Peter Noel Meilleur.

Susan Coolen's photographic body of work
The photographic work of the artist originary
from Nova-Scotia also evolves around the cosmos'
theme. In the ongoing project Astral Projections,
Coolen stages objects and links her collecting of
specimens to space imagery. Her found objects and
specimens become new 'evidence' in her constantly
evolving stories about 'who' is 'out there' and
'what' is 'out there'. Often playful, and linking
to fictional accounts of travel to the Moon and
beyond, Astral Projections [and related works
Celestial Travelers, Primordia, Galileo's
Observation] opens up the imaginative
possibilities of multiple entities and
possibilities inhabiting our vast cosmos.

Agence TOPO's multimedia creation
Agence TOPO pursues its research on the
convergence of literature and visual arts with
new media by approaching here the text as a
material for experimentation. The poems and the
images have stimulated the creation of multimedia
tableaux which are randomly displayed. In order
to put forward the texts' sound aspect, Agence
TOPO invited the author Childe Roland and the
poets Kim Dore, Tony Tremblay and Victoria
Stanton to read the poems.

Eva Quintas, artistic director of Agence TOPO, is
the project's curator. The site's design is
signed by Guy Asselin assisted by Vincent
Archambault. Audio concept by Mike Di Sclafani.

Post-Audio NetLab : web art project on music culture

Agence TOPO presents a new web art project on
today's music culture with the artist Gennaro De
Pasquale and the participation of 25 musicians
and audio creators.

www.AgenceTopo.qc.ca/postaudio

_________________________________________________

Post-Audio NetLab
Inspired by the the musical object's modes of
circulation, its iconographic markers and its
serial representations: (cds, vinyls, flyers),
Post-Audio NetLab is a space of interaction,
exchange and socialization that fictionally
simulates the codes of today's music culture.

The starting point is an invented collection of
over 400 album covers, each one of which is
associated with a musical style, texts and short
videos, which allow one to enter Post-Audio's
fictional universe. Various interactive modules -
listening, mixing and exchange rooms - are made
available to the users who can handle the virtual
albums, remix the proposed musical tracks, create
their own musical compositions, or exchange
texts, music, comments and information in a forum.

The site adapts and extends the
installation/event Post-Audio Esthetic, created
by the Montreal-based artist Gennaro De Pasquale,
in 2000, at the artist-run centre Clark. The
launch is now being held in order to invite the
local and international community to intervene
through the website and propagate the media
culture of the hour!

Post-Audio NetLab is a production of Agence TOPO,
developed by Michel Lefebvre and designed by Guy
Asselin, under the artistic direction of Gennaro
De Pasquale. The author Bernard Schutze has been
invited to write the texts of the simulated
musical universe. 26 artists and musicians have
contributed to the site : Mitchell Akiyama,
Sylvain Aube, Magali Babin, Mathieu Beausejour,
Hugo Cantin, Leo Cruz, Sylvie Chenard, Gabriel et
Guillaume Coutu-Dumont, Colin de la Plante,
Nathalie Dion, Chantal Dumas, La Famille Patate,
Christelle Franca, Thierry Gauthier, Daniel
Lagace, Eric Letourneau, Alexis O'Hara, Maus,
Mossa, Aicha Raihani, Jean-Sebastien Roux,
Guillaume van Roberge, Patrick Watson, Keisuke
Yoshino.

www.Agence Topo.qc.ca
Agence TOPO is an artist-run centre dedicated to
the creation, production, dissemination and
distribution of multimedia independent artworks.
Post-Audio NetLab is the fifth collective web
project producted by Agence TOPO, after
Liquidation - a web-radio fiction (1998), FiXions
(1999), Vilanova (2002), and Civilities (2003).
The site is also a space for the promotion and
distribution of artistic multimedia titles
(CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs and DVD-VIDEOs). The showcase
presents over fifty titles from Canada, the
United States, Australia, Belgium and France.

Inspired by the the musical object's modes of
circulation, its iconographic markers and its serial representations:
(cds, vinyls, flyers), Post-Audio NetLab is a space of
interaction, exchange and socialization that fictionally simulates the
codes of today's music culture.

The starting point is an invented collection of over 400 album covers,
each one of which is associated with a musical style, texts and short
videos, which allow one to enter Post-Audio's fictional universe.
Various interactive modules - listening, mixing and exchange rooms -
are made available to the users who can handle the virtual albums,
remix the proposed musical tracks, create their own musical
compositions, or exchange texts, music, comments and information in a
forum.
The site adapts and extends the installation/event Post-Audio
Esthetic, created by the Montreal-based artist Gennaro De
Pasquale, in 2000, at the artist-run centre Clark. The launch is now
being held in order to invite the local and international community to
intervene through the website and propagate the media culture of the
hour!
