Yono the infinite bifurcating pixel-art exquisite corpse

Deadline:
Mon Oct 29, 2012 00:00

If you're reading this, your next actions are clear.

1. Think about Mad Magazine Fold-ins.
2. Think about exquisite corpse drawings.
3. Think about pixel-art.
4. Visit Yono at http://sito.org/yono.

You are welcome to spectate, but we prefer you participate. You can graft your own nodes of pixel-art to the growing interactive structure. Ask me how.

EVENT

Yono pixel-art jam/hangout online

Dates:
Sun Oct 14, 2012 12:00 - Sun Oct 14, 2012

I'd like to invite you to come hangout with us Sunday while we doodle and code. I'll specifically be focused on facilitating Yono participation (taking reservations, editing data, uploading pieces) and making Yono ( http://sito.org/yono ) pieces, but you can do your own thing or just pop in to say hi. If it's anything like past Yono hangouts, there'll be a lot of screen-sharing and pixel-pushing. And that's fine with me.

I set it up for afternoon (PST) so our European friends can potentially join in.

All you have to do is RSVP yes/maybe to this and be on Google+ at the time and I'll invite you in to the hangout. If you see me on then and don't have an invite, just send me a message.

For those planning to get in on the Yono action, you might want to check out http://sito.org/yono/beta.html and find an [OPEN] slot to reserve. Hell, pick two. You can just respond to this thread with your requests and I'll do my best to get you into the dataclump before we start.

Also, be sure to check out Yono's new funding effort on Indiegogo -- http://www.indiegogo.com/yono

See you soon!

OPPORTUNITY

Contribute to Yono, a collaborative pixel-art project

Deadline:
Thu Oct 11, 2012 23:55

Enjoy working within constraints? How does 64x64 pixels, 16 colors, and drawing to fit seamlessly in a gap between two other images sound?

I'm currently running a collaborative pixel-art project called Yono on my site, SITO.org. Until October 11th, artists are welcome to add pieces to this ever-growing, branching, expanding, collapsing, interactive, and unique structure.

The basic mechanism for the collaboration is that articipants split an existing piece in half, either horizontally or vertically, to insert their own image. This process repeats unbounded, creating a characteristic branching structure that can be expanded/collapsed to navigate. Some call it "fractal-like", I just call it "explorational".

This is a not-for-profit endeavor, with the images and interactive exhibit remaining on SITO indefinitely. Note though that images submitted will become part of the protoype Yono navigator, which is being referenced in a fund-raising campaign (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/edstastny/yono-a-collaborative-pixel-art-project) for the project on KickStarter. If the funding goal is reached, we will be able to automate the entire process of Yono, rather than doing it all manually (via email, editing data files, SFTPing images).

If you have a passion for collaborative art, pixel-art, or interactive art, please take a moment to investigate Yono and consider contributing to the prototype project.

To participate, you may use any pixel art editor that exports GIF or PNG files. Our canvases are 64x64 pixels. Palettes are 16 colors (12 of which must be from the "parent" image).

To contribute, contact me at edstastny@sito.org to receive an assignment.
