Videorover: Season 8 - Open Call

Deadline:
Mon Apr 21, 2014 23:59

Location:
Brooklyn, New York
United States of America

NURTUREart is currently accepting proposals for the 8th season of Videorover. NURTUREart’s dedicated video program, Videorover aims at becoming an ever-expanding forum for emerging artists working in video.

This season we are seeking proposals that focus on video as installation. We are therefore encouraging submissions from video artists concerned with the many variables of how video content is reproduced and presented. We will consider how the video is engaged with the gallery space and its context, looking for works presented as installations, as well as ones referencing such issues internally, as part of the video’s own narrative and visual articulation.

Videorover: Season 8 will be exhibited in the main gallery space for a three week event during which different video-installations will be presented via separate openings. The selected works will be separated into smaller groups, with an emphasis on the co-activation of the space. In this respect, we are looking for work from artists that are interested in or open to the spirit of collaboration. After the formal exhibition, the videos will then move the the Videorover project space, where they will be displayed on a rotation of one video per day for the remainder of the season. For this reason, there should also be a version of the video, or a related work available for when the works move to the Videorover project space.

The subject matter of this call is open. Keep in mind that although we are dedicated to realizing these projects through creative institutional support, our budget and equipment is limited.

Deadline: April 21 at Midnight

Please read the rules and guidelines below before submitting:

1) If your work is more than 25 minutes in length, we ask that you submit an excerpt. If we would like to see the full length version, we will inquire directly.

2) In keeping with NURTUREart’s mission to show contemporary works by emerging artists, only video work that has been completed within the past five years is eligible for this exhibition.

3) If your work has been included in a Videorover program within the past two years (i.e.: Videorover 4, 5, 6 or 7) you are not eligible to apply.

4) No more than 3 videos can be submitted per artist or group.

Winter is coming, but what will it bring?

For some, it will bring yuletide greetings, a happy hearth, or some festive closing to the year. For others, it will bring the cold, inhospitable conditions of a time best spent in hibernation, cloistered away from the treacherous frozen elements that lay beyond the heated threshold.

For most, however, this season instills a sense of repose, pause, and contemplation. For better or worse, now is often the time when one begs to ask what the year has offered and what the next will bring. This desire to reflect seems integral in surviving the cold months ahead, and it is in this spirit that the Videorover series at NURTUREart seeks submissions for their winter series.

What do these months mean to you? Are they the time for respite? Are they the time for sledding? Are they the time for seeking warmth on the opposite side of the globe? What is this hemisphere’s winter compared to the other’s summer? Can our attention and focus be understood as seasonal?

Videorover seeks film and video works that address these concerns, either through the production of new works, or existing pieces that reflects on the season. These works do not necessarily need to speak to the specific climate conditions of one’s immediate surroundings, but should question what this time of year means for the individual maker.

Deadline: midnight on October 10, 2013

Please read the rules and guidelines below before submitting:

- Given the particular means of presentation and fruition of this program, videos less than 20 minutes in length will be favored. In keeping with NURTUREart’s mission to show new and emerging artists, only video work that has been completed within the past five years is eligible for this exhibition. If your work has been included in a Videorover program within the past two years (i.e.: Videorover 3, 4, 5, or 6) you are not eligible to apply.

- Please follow the link below to submit, and be ready with links to your videos, website, and online version of your CV (if available).

- No more than 3 videos can be submitted per artist or group.

- All videos must be available to be viewed streaming online, we will not accept file transfers.

Open Call - Videorover: Season 6

Deadline:
Sun Apr 21, 2013 23:59

Location:
Brooklyn, New York
United States of America

NURTUREart is now accepting video submissions for the sixth season of Videorover. NURTUREart’s dedicated video program, Videorover aims at becoming an ever-expanding forum for new and emerging video artists. This year Videorover is partnering with the annual Chicago based performance art festival RAPID PULSE to present performance inspired works made for the camera and to be presented on the screen. Expanding the boundaries of what is or can be performance art is one of the many focuses of the festival, as well as questioning ideas on presence, live-ness and mediation. These tropes will be explored through this video screening partnership, and will be screened both in Chicago and New York.

We are looking for works in the spirit of performance as a medium, privileging the body as the vehicle for production. We are not specifically looking for videos which are only serve as performance documentation, but rather works in which the body and the video act as collaborators.
