reCAPCHAT. Jimpunk at Domain Gallery

Dates:
Sat May 12, 2012 20:30 - Tue Jun 12, 2012

Domain Gallery is pleased to present reCAPCHAT, a solo exhibition by french artist Jimpunk curated by Manuel Fernández.

Jimpunk is a wellknown net-artist who has been using Internet as context for his art practice from late 90's.

reCAPCHAT use the reCAPTCHA system, an extension of the CAPTCHA test that recognizes text in images to determine when the user is human or not. Jimpunk has modified these systems to generate a nonsense chat, an intervention in Twitter where every time a user fills out the reCAPTCHA, is published in an account open for the project, creating a new and unexpected spontaneous way of experimental communication.

Jimpunk
lives and works in Paris.

On Kawara Time Machine

Dates:
Tue Apr 03, 2012 10:10 - Thu May 03, 2012

Location:
Winnipeg, Canada

On Kawara Time Machine", 2011/Ongoing, Website, HTML, javascript, CSS

In On Kawara Time Machine the viewer is given a heightened awareness of death and of the passage of time.

A javascript counter automates the On Kawara time-based "Date paintings" from his Today series. The script begins on January 4, 1966, the date of Kawara's first painting, and counts upward toward the actual date checked in the operating system clock. The CSS code produces the look of the paintings, using futura bold typography on a black background.

The project will be completed on the date of On Kawara's death, at which time a new variable will be added to the code to make the counter end (reset) on that day.

Dates:
Thu Apr 12, 2012 20:00 - Fri May 11, 2012

Location:
Gijón, Spain

Galería Adriana Suárez presents Two Hundred and Sixteen Colors, a social intervention project in the online medium by spanish artist Manuel Fernández.

From the date of its launch on October 3, 2011 has had the participation of more tan 1,000 users from around the world.

Two hundred and sixteen colors is a visual project articulated through social participation in Internet.

Draws a parallel between the modernist grid and the system of representation of digital images by pixels, explores the possibilities of social participation as a generator of abstract meaning through the study of the interaction of color, in a mass exquisite corpse way.

The project uses a secure web color palette of 8 bits which consists of 216 colors, the color system's native browser.

Users contribute with content in the same way they do leave a comment on a social network, or writing on a blog, creating the different parts of the series.

To do so, an online application was created:

http://www.twohundredandsixteencolors.com

The users provide content in the same way they do by leaving a comment on a social networking or blogging, creating the different pieces of the project.

With the information gathered by the application have been produced:

- A series of large format digital paintings.
- An interactive video-projection monitoring real-time user involvement.
- A series of prints.
- A book object that contains the code of the platform.

The show can be seen in the new gallery space of Adriana Suarez, C / La Merced, No.11. Gijón. Opening: Thursday 12 April at 20:00 h. From 12 April to 12 May 2012.
