Republic of Moon

Republic of the Moon
16th December 2011 - 26th February 2012
Imagine living on our closest celestial neighbour.... Seven
international artists are declaring a Republic of the Moon in Liverpool in this new exhibition.
Curated by The Arts Catalyst and FACT, Republic of the Moon presents major new commissions by Agnes Meyer-Brandis
and WE COLONISED THE MOON, and works by Leonid Tishkov, Andy Gracie,
Liliane Lijn and Sharon Houkema.
Weaving together fact, imagination and storytelling,
the artworks offer alternative visions of lunar life: a remote lunar habitat
for mythical “moon geese”, an immersive encounter with the smell of the
moon, DIY astrobiology experiments and the tale of a man who met the moon (and
stayed with her for the rest of his life).
Who will be the first colonisers of the Moon?
Perhaps it should be the artists.

Semiconductor: Worlds in the Making

Dates:
Fri Jul 01, 2011 11:00 - Sun Sep 11, 2011

Location:
Liverpool, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Join us this summer for the first major UK solo exhibition of Semiconductor, aka British artist duo Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt. Inspired by the natural world, Semiconductor make moving image, sound and multimedia installations which attempt to untangle our understanding of it.
Worlds in the Making is a series of newly commissioned artworks exploring the volcanic landscapes and unique geology of the Galapagos Islands. Through documentary footage, ethereal animations and a soundtrack composition by multi-instrumentalist Oren Ambarchi, gallery visitors are transported through lava landscapes, volcanoes, rocks and minerals to a world where science fiction meets science fact.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of screenings, workshops and related events.
