I use the computer to create custom software for manipulating audio and video in real-time. The computer is more than just a tool, because it has intelligent behavior within its automated processes, the computer provides unexpected audio and visual outcomes. I look for glimpses of inspiration within these unforeseen outcomes, and after the computer reveals its apparent creativity to me, I listen. I let it expand my own visual vocabulary. This collaboration leads to new ways of creating images, new ways of thinking, and new ways of viewing our environment and ourselves. I obtained my B.F.A from the Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City, MO., and my M.F.A at Alfred University in Alfred, NY. I am currently an Assistant Professor of New Media & Informatics at Indiana University South Bend.

Integrated New Media Studies
The Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts Area of Integrated New Media Studies at Indiana University South Bend invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in New Media beginning August 1, 2012. We seek an artist/communicator with significant creative and technical abilities to teach in a newly founded, rapidly growing interdisciplinary BFA program. A terminal degree in new media, intermedia, digital art, or other field combining art, communication, and computer technology, is required. Topics of particular interest to our program include graphic design and typography, video/animation/motion media, web and interface design, installation, and programming/scripting. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach in conceptual and historical frameworks of contemporary new media art and communication. The successful candidate will demonstrate the capacity for teaching, service, and research/publication or creative activity/exhibition appropriate to the successful pursuit of tenure. Teaching load per semester is normally 3 three credit hour courses. Salary is competitive; total compensation includes an excellent fringe benefits package.
