OPPORTUNITY

Art Factory presents Octoberfest/Building Bridges 2014

Deadline:
Sat Oct 11, 2014 11:00

Location:
Paterson, New Jersey
United States of America

Over Columbus Day weekend October 11,12 Art Factory will host a conference of community partners in the fields of art, design, government, public education, business and civic engagement. Each community group will be given a booth within the Art Factory (an arts center residing in Paterson’s historic textile mills) where they can present what their organization is about. There will be programs and events throughout the weekend to encourage collaboration, engage community partners, raise public awareness and promote innovation in various fields of sustainable design and historic preservation.

The more literal translation of ‘Building Bridges’ will manifest itself in a tree house park linked by rope bridges set in the backyard of the Art Factory abutting the Great Falls National Park. The tree house park would be designed by professionals, constructed by community volunteers using materials donated by community partners and open to the public during regular park hours.

EVENT

Starrcade

Dates:
Tue Aug 19, 2014 11:00 - Sat Aug 30, 2014

Location:
New York, New York
United States of America

Con Artist presents “Starrcade”, a show about anything and everything related to Professional Wrestling. Seriously. We’re a fine art gallery and we’re having a show about piledrivers, shiny spandex masks, TKOs, and endless tag-team smackdowns. “Starrcade” features work by 10 artists who aren’t trying to be ironic or poke fun at low-brow culture. They’re die hard wrestling superfans who grew up with the sport’s colorful characters and outrageous storylines.

And why shouldn’t we have a wrestling show? The mixture of high art and low art has been fueling the arts for the last century. What is professional wrestling but a gigantic, blue collar performance art piece? Wrestling has an immediately recognizable aesthetic that isn’t quite like anything else. It’s colorful, melodramatic, and flashy. It isn’t afraid to put common ethnic and gender stereotypes on parade.

Inside the Box

Dates:
Tue Aug 05, 2014 11:00 - Thu Aug 14, 2014

Location:
New York, New York
United States of America

Are you always burning the midnight oil and keeping your nose to the grindstone to make ends meet? Before you put another nail in the coffin and take one for the team, know that the end doesn’t justify the means.

Artists are usually esteemed for their creativity and innovation. This August at Con Artist we’re celebrating 5 creatives who are démodé and seriously cliché. “Thinking Inside the Box” shows off tchotchkes by artists who aren’t afraid to be a little tacky and who enjoy a good old fashioned pun. Many of the artworks are, in fact, inside of boxes.

Every cloud has a silver lining with a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and plenty of fish in the sea. Leave your mark! A picture is worth a thousand words in a Kodak moment in a New York minute. You can’t stop it, you can only hope to contain it.

EVENT

Money Shot

Dates:
Tue Jul 15, 2014 12:00 - Sat Aug 02, 2014

Location:
New York, New York
United States of America

Con Artist presents “Money Shot”, a collection of work from our newest members. A money shot is the flashiest, most awe-inspiring, or most expensive scene of a film (pornographic or otherwise). First impressions are everything, so we’ve asked our new recruits to bring their biggest guns to the table and show off whatever they consider their best work at the moment, their personal money shot (pornographic or otherwise).

Each work is considered to be the most valuable, best executed, or most important piece ever created by the artist themself. It’s not only a show of great work, but also a demonstration of what each artist celebrates and values in their own oeuvre. “Money Shot” creates an opportunity to meet the newest members of the collective and see what they do best.
