Pitaru was born in Jerusalem, Israel in 1974. He studied music composition under modern composer Arik Shapira. In 1997, Pitaru moved to New York and soon after started extending his reach to code and visuals, developing custom software to facilitate his work. Today, Pitaru collaborates with James Paterson via InsertSilence. They recently took part in an exhibition at the Design Museum in London. Their work is currently showing at the Seoul Museum of Art, as part of the Media-City Biennial. Pitaru teaches at Pratt Institute, as well as New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program (Tisch School of the Arts). He currently lives in New York with his wife Makiko.
