“I am Michael Alien, an alien who wants good and to exist with a twist of chaos and a big splash of toxic paint!”— Art Info

For Michael Alan, art is a combination of harmonious opposites, close observation, catharsis, a means of communication and a radical juxtaposition of dimensional elements. He challenges everything: concepts of figure, composition, media and movement, including the language of drawing. Exploring the ambiguity of time and history, Alan’s work focuses on translating energy into images.

Alan was born in the summer of 1977, in Bushwick during the New York City blackout. His work has been featured in 9 New York solo shows, over 200 group shows, and over 200 Living Installations. His work has been discussed in over 200 publications, books and media sources, including the New York Times, The Huffington Post, Bomb Magazine, Art 21, NBC’s Today Show, Marie Claire Italia, Frank 151, Art+Auction, the New York Post, Fox Channel 5, the Village Voice’s “Best in Show”, The Creator’s Project, Art Forum, the Gothamist, Time Out New York, Vice, Frame, American Artist, Animal, Hyperallergic, Curbs and Stoops, Cacao and many more.

In addition to his work as a multi-media artist, Michael is the founder and director of the Living Installation, where human beings are transformed into unique, living art objects. These happenings are set to Alan’s original music, which is recorded featuring artists such as The Residents, Tommy Ramone, Ariel Pink, and Meredith Monk.

Michael Alan 10 year Anniversary of Living Installation

Sat Oct 12, 2013 08:00 - Sun Oct 13, 2013

New York City, United States of America

The Living Installation project is a human activist art mission. The main goal is reinforcing that humans are living installations by creating a space for people to open up, come together and are all equalized through the process of creating art.

The Living Installation is a hardcore, DIY, New York City artist-founded project that brings all people together to celebrate creativity. We are thrilled to also announce this happening will include the comeback of the Draw-A-Thon in a special, one-time-only throwback celebration– an epic event!

Come witness 7 human bodies working together to build a triumphant human sculpture made of flesh and white paint. It’s an example of just how much humans can do by working together with raw true emotion and physical challenge. Allow power, equality, and creativity transcend you into the realms of all possibilities. One model at a time will enter nude. Alan will paint them white one at at time as they join and intertwine into one large form of energy. This is a happening/experience/performance/live work of art never to be recreated again. Come join us and take a vacation from New York in a 6-hour trip!

Michael Alan The Living Installation X-mas Special
A Sculpture/Installation/Happening
"Spider Legs On Fire"

People take space for granted, we use what we have without giving thanks. This project is extended through parts of my building not open to the public. Me and my team will plan a safe a wild ride for the viewer. My space is to be shared for this night to create action.

"Spider Legs On Fire" is a 5 hour Human Installation/performance/sculpture piece. We invite you to gather, watch, or make some art at Michael's House. Half condemned, half studio, 2 floors to walk in and out of.

3 workers are literally stuck together for the holidays at Michael Alan's Art House. Connected at the waist, joined at the neck, it is a Holiday special, art, art, art. They can barely move, but their legs do the action. Their legs move as though they are on fire, weaving, dancing, and creating an off-balance ensemble.
Join us on the second floor to witness the projection of the projection. Is it a person, a place, or a thing? It's breathing and projected onto itself. Sometimes it will move. Watch it project itself over and over until you see yourself. Take a look on the walls, the space will be filled with Michael's drawings.
It's a holiday event and you're invited. Experience the reinvention of spaces and bodies at the coziest, creepiest holiday extravaganza you've ever stumbled into.

Life is strange, art is life, come live for a day in the experience.
