Macarena has a degree in visual arts from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2008) and a Certificate in Video and Animation from Pratt Institute. She constructs her work from original material and adaptations of sound, images and text expropriated from the arts and mass media. She is attracted to warm atmospheres, rewriting and downloading material from the Internet. Macarena tries to express personal concerns emerging from the interaction of her biography and the historical period in which we live. Wants to delight as well as denounce.
She participated in "Manuals" at Gallery Matucana100, where her video "Madame Macarena Molina" was selected for the permanent collection. Her video "Pilates for Dummies" was selected for the XXXI National Art Competition at the University of Valparaiso, digital art category, and is on display in Gallery Sala SAM on-line. This year “Self-portrait” was part of the exhibition "The Shifting Face: Portraiture and the Art of the Moving Image" at Cornell University, NY, USA. Her work "The Three Heroes of José Martí" was nominated for the 8th International Digital Film Festival of Santiago, in the “Bicentennial” category.
She lives in Brooklyn, NY USA, developing her visual work, participating in the video collective Paper Tiger TV, volunteering at the Museo de El Barrio. Macarena also interviews artists for INDIE.cl and Artealímite.
