Kristen Lauth Shaeffer is a filmmaker, media artist and educator who lives and creates in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She finds documentary and experimental documentary, new media and mixed media installation particularly exciting. Right now she is interested in creating work that centers on themes of family, community, tradition and identity.
Kristen received her B.A. in Communication Arts and Theater from Allegheny College in 2003, and her M.F.A. in Film and Digital Technology from Chatham University in 2007. In between, she worked in live television closed captioning, and as a producer in Washington, D.C. Her short films have screened at festivals nationally and internationally. She is currently working on a project that will culminate with a series of short fictional narrative films to celebrate Pittsburgh’s diverse neighborhoods as a part of her hometown’s 250th birthday.
