Gayle Tanaka is a visual artist residing and working in New York City. Exhibition venues have included the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the Jewish Museum in San Francisco, the Chicago Cultural Center, and the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art and the Center for Photography in New York. Her work has been featured in "Camerawork", "afterimage", "Artweek" and "Zyzzyva".
Tanaka's work is photobased and explores intersections of time, culture and personal history. Always personal, yet always extended into the larger framework, her work is multi-layered, visually and contextually. Through the exploration of memory and influence, Tanaka seeks to reveal some of what goes on behind the changing face of America.
