Biography

My professional career in sound explored an intermediary role, sharing through various public performances the potentials of amplified, otherwise unheard and sensor-perceived contextual voltages from nature. I've monitored potentials from extraterrestrial Sferics, terrestrial trees, lakes, ice floes, the earth's sonics (via my Terrain Instrument Signal Discs, Draft Monitor, Windscube, terrestrial Whistlers, Meadow Piano and Windribboning ), interactive and realtime performances and presented these spatial constructs via multiplexed/satellite: de-multiplexed at site into 200 speakers. Since 2000, my present Internet projects have striven to go beyond these web pages as each of the projects shown have zeroed specific voltages from nature. The beyond? There is a black hole aspect to the Internet which beckons exploration conceptually and sustained interactions.

A perpetual realtime streaming process from this flux is sought that includes individualized networked listening sources derived from physical nature. I plan to concentrate on two aural resources. The personal soundspotting for me involves the transfer of my existing sound collection to CD/DVDs (dating from the 1950s to now) and to spatially merge this sound with other contributors into a flowing of streamable soundings- for ear and eye. Secondly, a key aspect regarding my contribution would be to provide sensor-monitorings from wind-stirred trees, my windribbon and the rain monitoring SignalDiscs. Additional contributors could be supplying a sensor-derived Australian rock strewn creek and its adjacent tree sounds. From BitTorrent collaborators, they could merge related works from individual nodes by adding their DSPd soundings and digitally join into these ongoing streams as a perpetual international listening. Such a cyclic process would have a collection of on/off natural resources. A given months sounds could be resumed at the same time in a subsequent year. It is my present interest to re-awaken the natural energy in a world wired for what. I want to reaffirm the need to reconnect with natural phenomena in realtime. I seek engagement with you for an ongoing, participatory Internet event in which an ear approach is the basis for a new hearing of nature and working towards the goal of recontextualizing sound in art.
