Binney Project:
Starting with an iconic painting by the New Zealand artist Don Binney, Pacific Frigate Bird, Kerr has generated a seven screen interactive work called the binney project that the audience will activate either through the internet or by cell phone.
The bird can be made to soar across the row of screens in the exhibition, move through three-dimensional space, and perform in 'flocks' through commands from Internet users from around the globe.
In the exhibition space itself, the visitor will be able to manipulate the bird using their cellphone. Up to 101 birds may be present on screen at any one time.
The Binney Project was especially commissioned by te papa for "startup" curated by Ian Wedde. Sponsored by Ericsson.
Special thanks to:
Greg Harding, Bridget Poppelwell, Collin Millar, Paul Morris, Don Binney and Ian Wedde.
