Full Description
Animals love sticking together; swarms of insects, schools of fish, herds of mammals, flocks of birds, crowds of people. They do this (mostly) because of the obvious benefits acquired by safety in numbers. Twice a year in Denmark they celebrate enormous flocks of European Starlings that fill the sky, a phenomenon referred to as sort sol (translated meaning “black sun”). The shapes these birds randomly form resemble any variety of things from balloons to doughnuts to hands and faces and clouds. Numerous computer models have been made to simulate flocks and swarms and schools. The one thing it’s hard to simulate though is stimulus: a gun shot or a car horn or a person shouting. These noises can shape the flock like a conductor’s wand if someone really wanted to. These flocks can make clouds but you, you can shape and mold them how you want, as long as you are loud enough.
