I use technology not to try and draw meaning but as an interface between the audience and I. My intent is to use traditional methods within the realm of contemporary technology to create systems, which exist online and off. In a mobile digital age of X, Y and Z; obsessed with efficiency we must break free from our screens and pigeonholes. The works system aims to create a falsified utopian-dystopia based upon reality; of an existence so superficially beautiful that one would miss the profound parasitic decay. Ultimately the Virgin Belvedere explores the dichotomy of beauty and consciousness.

Film is a key element of the system; moving images have become an intrinsic part of 21st Century life. I believe this means that an audience is more susceptible to the depiction of information though video and film than through any other format. Due to the nature of a camera capturing what is presented before it in reality, makes the creation of a falsification within film much easier to relate to; as what is seen in film can also be seen in reality. I feel that is important for the footage to be taken from the reality that the falsification is based upon. Furthermore the ability to utilise sound and light within film enables me to harness emotion in order to create more visceral experiences online and off. The concept of falsification formed the foundation of creation but it is the collection of film, which informs the flow and depiction of the falsification.

The website aids the depiction of Virgin Belvedere. Like a village website it offers information about the existence (place) that one would normally expect to find online. Mediating the superficiality of the pro-posited through the website brings forth what is most important - the sublimity of Being-In-The-World. The use of the Internet allows for a different situate; it places the work in a continuous space accessible to anybody, anytime globally. Without an audience there is no purpose or reason for the work. I aim to comment on the social uses of technology in reality by placing the work in the sphere of the internet; therewith footage of nature and technology. In doing so, I wish to manifest the elusive corporate profit structures which mediate our digital lives aiding the stampede towards the nihilistic disembodiment of virtuality (virtuālis - virtu (s) virtue + -ālis –al).

However my intentions are to make the systems relatable, not sole to technology but to many aspects of society whilst pertaining an essence of existential exploration of the self. I believe the audience must make their own interpretations of my work and ideas as translation and context become subjective. I hope to create ideas and answers that demand introspection.
