The Dead (2014)

Part of an ongoing series begun in 2002 of cylindric/anamorphic video reliquaries honoring people whom I have once met and who have since passed away - Lou Reed, Taylor Mead, Max Mathews, Telly Savalas, Gianni Toti and others.

Full Description

2002 - ongoing, HD video loops, 27" flatscreen LCD monitors, mirrored cylinders, support frames, dimensions variable. Video loops are geometrically distorted in a way that the portrayed persons, all dead by now, are not recognizable unless a cylindrical mirror is placed on the black center spot in the middle of the horizontal screen. In this way, the dead can be summoned back to our reality.

Artist Statement

"The Dead" is a continuing series of shrines, based on videos of relatives, friends or people I met by chance and who have since passed away. Geometrically distorted and looped, these homages replay the ephemeral moment of our encounter. As anamorphic reflections on the cylindrical mirrors, those portrayed are literally resurrected from the dead - presenting a new kind of portraiture.
