Artist Statement

I am particularly interested in people and ideas of collectivity, and within that I mean a collective thought, feeling or understanding generated in response to strategies employed within Media, Business or Politics that manipulate consumers to affect economic outcomes, thoughts, needs and wants. My interest in this steams from an ongoing investigation into repetition, labour, futility, boredom, meaning and value via advertising, the television, the internet and the workplace.

Recent video works made whilst resident at Hotel MariaKapel in Hoorn, NL, explore Marxist ideas of work-time and leisure-time and combine footage taken in work environments found in The Netherlands and the UK with voiceovers manipulated and re-edited from found footage that touch upon or hint at shifts in power structures and merge the place between reality and its fictional representations.

By using different strategies to remove context, whereby the typical use or connection to something is rendered obsolete, I use still and moving images, sound, words and objects that are often looped or repeated, to investigate meaning, meaningfulness and meaninglessness.
