Artist Statement
"A Toast to Stillness" (2009) exists as a stand-alone video and also as a self-contained web site, http://atoasttostillness.com. The piece remarks on the need for stillness in the forever changing and moving nature of contemporary life. The Internet has become the prime example of the speed in which our lives currently can progress. My attempt in creating this video was to create some "stillness" in my life and studio practice at the time. I felt the need to step back from what I was doing and reflect. Moreover, by presenting the video as a web site, it acts as in intervention into the speed of the Internet, where my ideal viewer happens upon the site through random clicking and is compelled to add some momentary stillness in their life as well.
