My wish (2011)

I created the piece using tweets filed under "My Wish" in twitter as well as through messages sent to a special twitter account (@comostory).

for this project I make a another account (@mywishtree) new version

The best way to understand a person is to know that person’s frame of mind.

How do we read other people’s minds? Intentions are usually read by comprehending the meaning of what people say. Although the authenticity of the writings on blogs and various sites should be questioned, the explosive application of social networks must be a reflection of the need for communication and relationships.

This data visualization using Twitter did not begin with a big discussion on social networks, public art etc., but simply with the intention of peeking into the minds of people through their stories; not as a propagandist art that aims to change the ideas of others, but to understand the people a bit more by listening to the words of others. The question I send on Twitter is ‘MY WISH’.

, everyone gathers their most earnest desires and makes wishes.

I hope the understandings of others will also be increased when those wishes are delivered through the display boards in the city.

Full Description

objective

The work "My Wish" is an English version of "Whispering Wishes". The purpose behind both pieces is to showcase a true communication,

a communication that sprouts from an intuitive, artistic imagination.

"My Wish" focuses on individual storytelling and in a broader sense, touches on many different people's situations and conflicts.

By sharing the their wishes, people can connect and learn from one another. And by drawing from many different individuals,

the piece achieves a certain social resonance.

history

On Jan 1, 2011, my twitter visualization titled "Whispering Wishes" appeared on COMO (a large city screen located in Seoul).

The New Year's wishes of Korean people scrolled across the screen, visible to all who walked by. Through the use of the screen,

COMO was able to hear the wishes of the Korean people as well as broadcast them to a national audience. I created the piece

using tweets filed under "New Year's Wishes" as well as through messages sent to a special twitter account (@comostory).

The purpose of the piece was to increase communication between people. Most people believe that a New Year's wish must

be kept private in order to come true, yet the piece shows many people's willingness to share their desired wishes for change.
