mother&child. (2011)

basically a 'vanitas' in the sense it's supposed to provoke reflective feelings but it's about the immaculate conception and a reminder of the empending sadness and calming fact of life and death. The plants make it more reassuring and calming not only because of their colours but because they remind us of the universal life cycle. virgin mary with child with mourning mary magdelene faded in the back round and the crucified christ in the left hand corner. voluptuous creamy young woman staring into an undefined distance and tropical plants to enhance the richness of nature, black and white contrast to highlight the simplicity of enjoying the good life.
