The video work Julia Denzig represents a version of the fictional character Julia Denzig as a rotating digital mask/ sculpture. An optical illusion constructed from found images, the mask temporarily displaces the capacity to identify how an image occupies 3d space - creating conditions in which the spectator seeks to locate the “realness” of a virtual image. The manufactured environment introduces a kitschy pastiche of CGI and yet despite its transparent artificiality, we are led to contemplate its verisimilitude.
