Clouds, Mix, Crossings (2011)

pieces for various combinations of flutes and guitars: improvisation + computer score + flowchart + verbal score

Full Description

In the following three compositions, musicians combine improvisation, performing a computer-generated score, and performing instructions from flowcharts. The music develops organically from their differences in interpretation, and from differences between various outputs of the same program. Most of the time the musicians play simultaneously, but without any common time. The music attempts to find a unique balance between personal, organic, and intuitive and on the other side, machine-like, anonymous and random. Clouds for flute and three guitars was recorded by Milica Jevic (flute), Andrej Jovanic, Aleksandar Petrovic and Andreja Andric (guitars) in 1994. Mix and Crossings were recorded in 2000 by Milica Jevic (flute), Svetlana Novakovic (flute) and Andreja Andric (guitar). All the pieces were performed in Belgrade between 1995 and 2000.
