Walking in and Listening toWi-Fi Landscapes (2011)

This is a clip that visualised invisible Wi-Fi landscape and music. John Cage's works bring us the concept of the structure and sound material could be composed separately. Time span is the unit in his works and become the structure and sound/noise/silence is the material. I created grids of colours from Wi-Fi identifier codes and converted the codes to music. The colour grid constructed the structure where the music be performed. A drawing man walked in the became an time unit that transformed the Wi-Fi landscape to a score and a visible song.

I am interested in invisible landscape where people live but are hard to perceive.Colour is a powerful elements in visual aspect and full of symbols and meanings. Josef Albers's and Richard Paul Lohse's colour grid works inspired me to think how colours become form. John Cage and Iannis Xenakis stimulated me to explore the relationship between the structures and material. I aim to construct the new method to present my understanding of them to produce visual and acoustic invisible works.
