Press Release: Glass Spilt Out of the Broken Tub Experimental documentary/ audiovisual performance Hope/less without Glass

Glass spilt out of the broken tub is an acute audiovisual symphony, dynamically analyzing an unprecedented situation at the moment of its potential demise. The experimental 30-minute documentary portrays the present situation of the composer’s home region, Jablonecko, that is famous for its glassmaking tradition. What was previously the most developed industry has now been declining for several years; glassworks, manufacturers and design shops go bankrupt; workers end up on welfare and students of local art schools cannot find jobs in the field. The project offers an audiovisual probe into the problem, combining interviews with the local people, who are directly affected by the crisis, with sounds and images from the local glassworks and small glass workshops, while showing various stages of glassmaking. Merging the music and visualization, the projects exploits techniques from both documentary and live performance, using authentic glass sounds, musical improvisation on glass materials and magical interplays of light spectra in space and kinetic objects. The subtle combination of components points to subliminal contents of the whole problem while the abstract meditation as a whole pays homage to the esthetics of glass, functioning as a local art manifesto dedicated to those who have lost all hope, as well as those who still keep on trying.

The live performance is usually completed with a debate at a round table with the artists, special guests and the audience discussing the theme, focusing on connection of local traditions and global market, which is the essential issue for all the postcomunistic countries.
