The telegraph is connected to an arduino. The arduino is running the software called firmata that allows for easy communications with Processing. Processing, which is free, open source and cross platform is using a library called twitter4j that allows for communications between Processing and Twitter. The authentication processes that twitter now employs is complicated, but an excellent tutorial at robotgrrl.com helps solve that problem. This is not a good project for a beginner, but it's not super complicated either. My processing sketch is available online, and you are free to use and modify it as long as you respect the CC license.

This DIY open source project includes instructions and source code for you to build your own tweeting telegraph. I would love to establish a tweetagraph network so if you like to tinker please feel free to give it a try.
At last, the 140 character limit is not the most annoying thing about tweeting!
