Series: "The Politics of the Divine-Thangka numérique"

About: A beginning inquiry into the use of spectacle in religious artworks and architecture by examining basic aesthetic elements of colour, luminosity, scale, symmetry and rhythm, in order to cross-reference visceral/spiritual effects of religious icons and architectural space across a range of cultural tendencies. Nu'a Bön is a traditional media and electronic media artist with a long interest in social science who has studied South Asian and East Asian thangka in India, Nepal and Tibet, and Buddhist cave paintings along the Silk Road.

After over a decade in China spent teaching new media art history and intellectual property law, working as a research fellow for a social progress NGO, and finding some success as an artist with focus on illuminating disappearing traces of traditional Chinese culture, Bön now works as a fine artist and temple painting restorer in Hawai'i. Today he typically employs traditional media of acrylic ink and handmade mineral pigment paints on canvas, large-format archival pigment printers, and digital video.

As a native-born South Pacific islander of Oceania, Asian and European ancestry, Bön continues to examine Asian culture but has expanded his artistic inquiry into traces of ancient Pacific spiritual and community practices.
