This project was a collaborative effort between a small group of students at San Francisco Art Institute and the Sorbonne in Paris. The San Francisco Art Institute received a grant for the development of open source software that facilitates transatlantic collaboration involving research and engagement with New Media. The philosophies and ambitions of the project A/S/L were integrated into the institution's existing curriculum, and intertwined with the SFAI course Cinema 2.0: Shared Distribution, whose thematic focus involves collective artistic production, the practical implications and methodologies of open source software, the applicability of social networking tools for artistic practice, and the manner in which all of these effect perceptions and experiences of authorship.
