Refraining (2010)

Refraining (2010) is a four channel moving image and sound installation. Four large video projections create a dynamic architectural space. Site-specific, spatial sound design punctuates the experience of this nonlinear narrative.

At the core of the installation, the female protagonist plays with dominoes. As the installation unfolds, domino-logic emerges as the organizing principle of other systems she uses to activate her surrounding environment. These systems are a web of inane tasks and absurd games. Her execution is somber yet slapstick. This tragicomic tone intensifies as she drinks gin and tonics and screwdrivers.
