Photography has entered its most exciting phase since Joseph Nicephore Niepce managed to fix the first permanent image in the 1825. Today the ubiquitous mobile phone allows us to capture images (still & video) wherever and whenever we wish. The onscreen, online, networked image has superseded the printed image; we now view images via screens on a multitude of devices and share them instantaneously across the world. The still image no longer defines photography in the 21st century, new forms of photography are emerging - this is Photography 3.0.

With reference to the great tradition of portrait photography, ix3 utilises video portraits in an online, dynamic, triptych gallery. The project is participatory; and offers everyone an opportunity to create a video portrait using a mobile phone camera and add it to the online gallery. Photography has entered its most exciting phase since Joseph Nicephore Niepce managed to fix the first permanent image in the 1825. Today the ubiquitous mobile phone allows us to capture images (still & video) wherever and whenever we wish. The onscreen, online, networked image has superseded the printed image; we now view images via screens on a multitude of devices and share them instantaneously across the world. The still image no longer defines photography in the 21st century, new forms of photography are emerging - this is Photography 3.0.

With reference to the great tradition of portrait photography, ix3 utilises video portraits in an online, dynamic, triptych gallery. The project is participatory; and offers everyone an opportunity to create a video portrait using a mobile phone camera and add it to the online gallery. Each video portrait displays the first name of the subject, their hometown or location and the ISO 3166 country code. Three video portraits are displayed on the screen at the same time, as each one ends it is replaced by another random video portrait.
