Videowall from BLUE HAMMER (2009)

This videowall was created for Leon Johnson's BLUE HAMMER trans-historical dinner theatre project. It is a web-based (or dvd based) experience which is essentially a placeholder for live performers, wearing black garbage bag tops, dark glasses, and sneakers/jeans (not shown). The performers follow pitch-tracks played on their iPods, resulting in a lovely pitch-cluster vocal ambience, with intermittent whoops.

Bargsten has used the technique of live ensembles following tape/cd/mp3 instructions to create music and theatre since 1983. His landmark 2005 opera Anatomy of Melancholy ™ (http://www.badmindtime.com/opera) was the first opera to use iPods to transmit the score to performers.
