African Grass Fire (2008)

I worked for three months in Liberia which was before it fell apart. It is sad because Liberia had so much going for it and was one of the most stable governments in Africa. Anyway, while I was there I got introduced to African art. One thing I learned was that it was rough and often lacked intricacy. But art there was usually not made for art’s sake but to create a practical item. So, I dabble myself in the African style. You can see the rough simpleness in the scaly background as well as the grass fire. If you look at my artwork you will notice the one consistency is the lack of consistency. I try to make each piece different from all the others. With each piece I try something new and try to learn something in the process making each piece a process of self discovery.
