lightrides (2009)

LightRide Series has transpired and been inspired by night rides on expressways, long roads, early mornings in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. the lights move, dance with the feeling of the time passages. I have been working on these for 2 years now, and have many. This work speaks to insight-transformation. Taking the ‘ordinary real time’ reflective night lighting and intuitively transforms it into light motion.

This is an actual digital photograph, taken with a process---painting with light, using slow shutter speeds. When I create them, it is a spontaneous work, engaged and in the moment. Predicting where the light will move, and moving with or against the flow, as I find the mood. Part of the outcome is always unpredictable. I shoot hundreds, often in the burst mode, to get the fluid outcomes. Play—joy--is part of the emotion which is captured.

An individual artist explores and gives the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. Artists see and think with keen beliefs and insights.

I believes this matters immensely, since it takes one outside of our own personal perceptions, and shares new insights.

To paraphase A. Huxley, ‘the mind once stretched, never returns to its original dimensions’. Expansion of consciousness affects the way we live and experience the world.
