VWare 1.0 series is my attempt to refocus on the poetics of pure visual communication. All artworks in this series are Flash applets inspired by literature. User interactions with these software programs are often discouraged or even completely denied. In essence, VWare 1.0 is a series of self-operating, time-based paintings define by me yet generated (performed) in real-time by the computer for each viewer upon visit.
VWare 1.0: Refined Black (2009) is a tribute to the traditional Chinese ink-and-wash painting. The user could get involved and direct the movement by holding down the mouse key and move the cursor; however, this piece is intended to be a self-operating, time-based light painting that embodies the meaning of the popular Chinese phrase, the refined elegance of the ink, which is often used to describe the beauty of ink-and-wash paintings.
