My computer

“As technology continues to develop and more services and products are available online, we become increasingly dependant on the things accessible through the internet. Where it was once necessary to visit the high street in order to pick up a new pair of shoes or fill a prescription, one can now compare prices from countless online merchants and save time and money by shopping the internet. Just about anything can be found and purchased through the computer, including groceries, music, cars, homes and insurance, and society’s reliance on this international online marketplace, in addition to the popularity of online gaming, gambling and dating, means people spend more time sitting in front of their computer screens and less time interacting with their physical environments.” (From an essay about Digitizing Nature: Technological Dependency and Olle Essvik’s (jimpalt) Sun Clock, written by Lindsey Morse)

The online world is possible through an interaction with a machine. I probably look more at the computer screen than at my girlfriend and I definitely touch my computer more than I touch my girlfriend. I don’t spend more time in front of the screen than an averge person.

Sometimes I wonder how people in the future will look back at their life. I know there is people spending almost all there time in front of WarCraft, Facebook, MySpace etc. Does our dreams and thoughts become different, how do we dream of a meeting through Internet? Will their dreams and history be pictures of computer screens? I was dreaming nightmares of getting stuck in Quake as a symbol for a bad relationship with my ex wife. I think of Mario when I look back at my childhood.

We have a relationship with the computer and I guess we are more dependent of machines than ever before. This relation could take many forms. My girlfriend talks to her computer and it has a name, so does her video camera too. My friends pimps their computers and dreams about new equipment. My neighbour met her husband through Internet and my ex. girlfriend broke up with me through a modem. The person next to you beats his computer, as it would help. There has been teardrops on my keyboard. My colleague talks more about Mac Book Air than he is talking about his son.

My computer is a webpage for computers and their users. Welcome to upload pictures of your computer and life.
